Day 12 | Nexus and Elsewhere

Who: Open post!
What: There are a few prompts that can be played with, but, generally speaking, space marines in 21st century Japan.
Where: The nexus … and a portal to Somewhere Completely Different
When: Day 12

What happens when you add together: 1) a dimensional nexus that transcends time and space, and 2) a formerly shattered-to-beyond-oblivion multiverse?

Well …

It’s the twelfth day since the nexus opened its doors. People — whether they’re brightly colored space marines, long dead Freelancers, or assorted others — have been doing as people will do; some minding their own business, others getting all up in whatever, or whoever, they can. No doubt that more than a couple of visitors have figured out how to make the portals work for them, opening up the gateways between universes. However, today … today, there's a slight twist to the tale.

The portals don't lead to the MoI, crashed or otherwise. They don't lead to Chorus, either, or a simulation base. No. Today, the portals allow access to twenty first century Japan — downtown Tokyo, to be specific, in the middle of summer. Bet you weren't expecting that! But wait, it gets better …

I. Prompt 1: Nice Costume, Cosplayer!
They're animanga fans, and they love your armor. They want pictures. They want pictures with you. Can they try on your helmet?

Or maybe you're just, y’know, trying to mind your own business while literally everyone stops and turns to stare. There may be a lecture about when and where cosplay is appropriate waiting in the wings, or maybe it’s just that nobody — nobody — is willing to take you seriously.

II. You Didn’t Do It! … Or Did You?
You were just accused of murder.

Yes, you.

Maybe you did it, maybe you didn't. Maybe you were actually caught red handed, smoking gun and all! Maybe you were in the wrong place at the time — or, hell, is there even a body? Whatever the case may be, you're the prime suspect, and the police (or sassy high school detectives) are never far away.

III. The Lucky Wildcard
If you're not being mistaken for a cosplayer or facing down a charge for murder in the first degree, what are you up to? Whether you're in Japan, back in the nexus, or in any of the newly linked universes; anything goes!

Well, yeah. But. That's not my point here!

What kind of magic would this even be?

Death magnetism?
imaghostmotherfucker: in what we would call "treason" (ghosts liberally participate)

Why not? Wouldn't be the craziest kind of magic I've heard of.
purrtylittlewires: (Just let it go)

Infecting several people?

And why targeted at teenage detectives and people who know them?
imaghostmotherfucker: that's just photos of you sleeping (ghosts are running a successful tumblr)

Okay, Mr. Know-it-all Freelancer, what's your explanation?

...

It could be a conspiracy.
imaghostmotherfucker: in your house (ghosts live in most of the drains)

...

A conspiracy. Of teenage detectives.

Against the teenage detectives.

Brilliant kids, but still kids. Who don't even freak out when they see a corpse, they see it as normal.

Could be a whole conditioning thing to make them detached entirely from reality except the high of solving a hard puzzle, then scoop them up for nefarious schemes.

...Jesus christ, Wash.

[And yet that... does sound pretty believable to him.

God, Church hates his life.

[Shrugs.] What? After seeing as many kids around corpses as I have, you start to wonder what that would do to their psyche in the longterm.
imaghostmotherfucker: that you like them (ghosts are telling ur crush)

Well, yeah, it's fucked up. But that doesn't mean someone's arranging it on purpose.

[It totally does, doesn't it. It's some crazy plot to create child detective geniuses who are completely numbed to the sight of death. Goddammit.]

I suppose rampant coincidence would be better.

[But there is some sort of Great Conspiracy, so why wouldn't this be part of it?]

[It'd explain why so much can be tied to the Black Organization.]

But the better option is never the correct one, is it. There's always got to be something incredibly shitty going on.
