[meme] RvB & Halo AU Meme

Ever wonder what your Freelancer would do if they were able to fight in the war, or how the Spartans would behave if they were recruited as Freelancers? Here's your chance to find out!

How to play:
  • Post a top-level with your RvB or Halo character

  • List preferences and ideas, or write a starter

  • Tag around! It doesn't have to be strictly characters from the other setting, either. Put two Freelancers in the ODST, or put Master Chief and Cortana in Project Freelancer. Let your imagination be your guide!

  • Have fun!

It's a somewhat strange feeling, feeling the armour being clamped around him and sealed. Good thing he isn't claustrophobic. Finally the helmet is put on, the HUD flaring to life in a wave of colour and sensation, and Wash can steps away.

"So," Matt says as he considers the younger Spartan, "ready to try that out a bit?"

Walking to start of course. He wants to make certain he can evaluate the man's comfort levels before they spar any.

"Yes sir!" He can't help the thrill of excitement. He wants to be back out in the field as soon as he can, and if this helps him to do that... well, he's going to make it happen.

Too eager, but it was a Spartan thing Matt supposed. So he nods and steps back for David to have room. He just gestures for the man to advance. "Break your ship and I don't care. Break mine..."

The threat didn't need to be completed. Matt was more experienced with his own armor, he could probably put the kid down easily.

He can't help but be eager. He was build for war and this technology is going to make him better at it. He needs to be active, to keep pushing forward.

He moves forward, careful as he can be because he can feel the power of the armour. "I think they'd prefer if we didn't destroy any of our own ships."

"I think I'd prefer it even more than they did. I've lost comrades to poorly spent time outside of ships," Matt counters. He watches the man carefully, paying attention to how he moves. Seemed like he was succeeding at controlling it a bit. Good to know. The stuff could pretty much turn a thought into action faster than many people could process.

It does take some effort and more concentration than he'd expected. Sometimes it almost feels like the armour is moving him rather than the other way around. It's a little weird.

He stands still, and flexes his fingers, feeling how it contracts and moves with him. "This is incredible." It puts every other armour to shame.

Of course it did. Maine had read about the SPI Armor and it's modifications. Whoever had done that knew what MJOLNIR could do, but it was no replacement for MJOLNIR itself. He knew the rush of the suit as it got better. Beautiful.

"It is. Give yourself space from the walls. I would like you to do a warmup exercise. Shadowboxing."

This is more like it. He knows what he's capable of and getting to show it, even just a little, is much better than being stared at just for existing. He moves a little further into the room and then walks to the centre of the room, falling into stance, arms raised. He can feel the suit humming somehow, like it's a living thing in its own right.

Did the kid think Matt intended to face him? Ridiculous. But he supposed he could allow it. The large Spartan rolled his shoulders and shifted into a basic defensive stance. He won't fight back. But he will block and do minor dodges. Give the kid something to aim at.

"Go," Matt instructs. No way some fake kid Spartan would be able to get through his guard.

Why not? Better to get a feel for how it'll hit in a semi-real situation. He wants to feel the impact, or at least feel how his reflexes work against something more tangible than his own shadow.

He starts out slow, an obvious punch to get a feel for the distance. He knows it'll be easy to block, but that's not the point.

Maine catches the punch easily, but he does nod at that. Good, he's learning, but he needs to be faster. There is more than just knowing where to go. But being cautious and thoughtful is good. Important. The best sort of caution that a SPARTAN should have.

"Again," Maine insists. "If you can land a blow then we're good."

Of course he won't. He can't be good enough to do it. But they'll figure it out.

Okay, that helps. He just needs to get used to the armour first, the speed and the strength of. He thinks he has a slightly better idea now. The next punch comes faster and harder, but still much gentler than he knows he could be, adjusting to the armour humming against his nerves.

"Again," Matt repeats, because he doesn't intend to let the man stop until he's satisfied that David will be able to adjust to the armor. Of course, it would be better to give the man more time to deal with armor adjustment. But time wasn't something any of them tended to have in abundance.
