[meme] RvB & Halo AU Meme

Ever wonder what your Freelancer would do if they were able to fight in the war, or how the Spartans would behave if they were recruited as Freelancers? Here's your chance to find out!

How to play:
  • Post a top-level with your RvB or Halo character

  • List preferences and ideas, or write a starter

  • Tag around! It doesn't have to be strictly characters from the other setting, either. Put two Freelancers in the ODST, or put Master Chief and Cortana in Project Freelancer. Let your imagination be your guide!

  • Have fun!

Really, no, he doesn't really believe Kurt on that one. He wouldn't work toward MJOLNIR because he didn't expect he'd get one. How ridiculous. It was going to take so much more time to get himself better to the point where he'd believe what Kurt offered.

"My implants can more than handle the load," Matt said, because they could. He knew just what the project had been intended to do. The answer needed that enhanced lace. People who could handle the AI without the armor to be the primary support. And in return he had stable hands. And his hearing was better too.

At last he dealt the cards before looking to Kurt. "Let's be specific. The neural wetwork I have compensates for what was wrong with me. And I've learned to be better. To compensate for what it doesn't."

Kurt had always excelled at defying expectations so apparently he would have to remind his brother of that. Whether he could read the shadow of doubt in Matt’s face was unsure but he looked all the more resolute after he said that.

After all, he had a perfectly functioning set of MJOLNIR locked up in his personal armory right now. But perhaps he was putting the cart before the proverbial horse. He blamed his enthusiasm on the excitement of having his old squad mate here within reach after more then two decades of isolation. “Good, then we’ll get you fitted for SPI armor ASAP. It might take them a little bit longer to come up with armor to fit someone your size.”

He broke off then with a piercing look at Matt and it was obvious the gears were turning behind those bright hazel eyes. “The Chief and I both think you’ll be wasted running drills, instead I’m going to use you in a more lateral manner. Gamma is moving onto their graduation exercises which means we are stepping up their battle simulation training. You’ll be the harrier and the sole bane of their existence when they are out in the field.”

Kurt finished with a wry looking smile. “Though, in the spirit of full disclosure, they have always managed to outfox my other DI’s by the end but save for Tom and Lucy, they have never had to face off against a Spartan in the field.”

"I wasn't the brightest Spartan, but I will do my best. I can promise that if it comes to a fist fight they won't last long. I'll do everything I can," Maine promised.

Maybe he would be a good instructor. The men and women that had trained them had never fought the Covenant. Maybe more instructors had by this time, but few in as many ways as Matt. Perhaps Kurt wasn't wrong to trust him.

"I saw your stealth specs. If I'm going to teach them I need to best stealth I can get. And any spare Covenant gear you have. Need to make sure they don't flinch at the sight of a grav hammer.

"I know I can trust my Spartans in your hands, Matt. I just want you to give them every advantage they can have because Ackerson and ONI...they don't care about Spartan lives. All they care about is that the mission succeeds." There was something dark and troubled in Kurt's eyes.

Spartans didn’t deal with failure very well and Kurt was no different. In his heart, he felt as though he’d failed both Alpha and Beta Companies. It was why he’d fought so hard to keep Tom and Lucy under his command rather than seeing Tom shuffled off into some ONI black bag operation and god only knew what might have happened to Lucy considering her inability to speak.

“I’ll get you everything you need. As I said, they’ve given us a pretty wide array of Covenant and UNSC weaponry. I’m sure I can scrounge up a grav hammer if you need it.” It was generally too heavy for most people to be able to wield but Matt wasn’t most people.

Not the largest Spartan, not the strongest, but Matt was sure as hell determined. And he was going to damn well prove it. "Yes, I want the grav hammer. Seen a squad taken down by one. Want to figure out how to best deal with what they do. Not as bad as fighting those damn Hunters..."

One of the things Matt had barely survived facing. He'd gotten lucky and acquired some plasma grenades earlier. Lobbed them, stuck them to the armor on the back without it getting noticed and that was lucky. Luck wouldn't keep Spartans running. Except for John. but he was different.
