[meme] RvB & Halo AU Meme

Ever wonder what your Freelancer would do if they were able to fight in the war, or how the Spartans would behave if they were recruited as Freelancers? Here's your chance to find out!

How to play:
  • Post a top-level with your RvB or Halo character

  • List preferences and ideas, or write a starter

  • Tag around! It doesn't have to be strictly characters from the other setting, either. Put two Freelancers in the ODST, or put Master Chief and Cortana in Project Freelancer. Let your imagination be your guide!

  • Have fun!

((WHAT SUN NONE OF YOU EVER TAKE OFF YOUR HELMETS))

[The ship isn't on the agenda, because Blood Gulch doesn't have an agenda. The little box canyon probably wasn't the shuttle's first choice--it's no one's first choice--but a plume of smoke trails behind the ship, black and foreboding. The stricken craft streaks in at a shallow angle, haloed in the hot orange glow of reentry as the pilot bleeds velocity into the atmosphere.

Then, of course, it crashes.

A cryopod AI is so dumb it almost doesn't deserve the distinction of being called an AI, but is also too dumb to resent the fact. Instead, it churns through its disaster recovery procedures, notices a number of things that shouldn't be on fire are unfortunately on fire, decides that its passenger would be safer awake, and lacking the capacity to second-guess itself, immediately triggers the thaw cycle.

Even with state-of-the-art tech, it takes a few minutes to bring someone up from a hair above absolute zero, and Catherine Halsey gets that much of a reprieve from having to deal with anyone in Blood Gulch.]

[There is in fact an agenda to Blood Gulch Outpost Alpha. The day starts with Butch Flowers waking up and getting his men fed. Then he gets them exercising because young bodies need to stay fighting trim. Then it is the normal shenanigans of the day.

The smoke and ship are not normal shenanigans. He is always warned ahead of time about maneuvers or orders due to the need to keep one of his charges safe. This is bad. Which means there are things that need done and need done now. So he keys his helmet to the command frequency and starts giving the needed orders.]

"Vic, be a dear and start thinking for me. I don't want Sarge investigating. Radio Freelancer Command with the details and get me information from the higher ups on how they are going to play it out."

[He gathers his men, informs them there is a mission from Command, and runs them out toward the crash sight. When he gets close he cheerfully informs the pair that they are to guard there ship, using the nearby rocks as cover. Meanwhile Flowers heads inside and finds the cryobay. Puts himself into position to wait for defrost and hums to himself. This is truly interesting.]

[People swear they dream in cryo, which Halsey considers nonsense, save for the foggy moments between electrical activity in the brain restarting and consciousness fully returning. She's willing to stretch a point and consider any hallucinations in that phase to be "dreams," despite it demonstrably not being REM sleep.

Anyway, Halsey wakes up cranky, though it has nothing to do with anyone's mistaken beliefs about cryonic suspension and everything to do with the fact the last thing she remembers before oblivion took her was the hull breach. Well, that and the fact she's just generally cranky, but mostly the hull breach. She sits up in her cryopod, coughing up the bronchial surfactant that protected her lungs from the cold, hair and skin damp from condensation. That she's experienced at cyrosleep becomes obvious when she looks around her with no sign of confusion.

Depending on how in the loop Flowers has been, he might recognize the ONI Science Director personally, but should easily place the ONI civilian scientist uniform regardless.]

As before, no problem. It happens. I once lost a thread for two months

[Well there, she's definitely an experienced one. Flowers considers just how composed he is from his position leaning against a second, clearly unused pod. And, with proper experienced politeness his eyes remain solely at the level of her face. He had enough experience with the old Admiral's wife and her bitter embrace to know the way you handled someone waking up. You didn't look them over too closely until you were both ready to see if you'd come out of it okay. And he didn't for a moment intend to let her wander around until she had been thoroughly checked for freezer burn. Nothing worse than going in clothed, more likely to end up with damaged cells.

The uniform, though, that is almost more intriguing than the ship. A single person ship out here, with an ONI civilian? This is an important woman. She was important, probably on the level of the Director to be honest. After all, Freelancer had been beholden to a branch of ONI. Which made him wonder just who this was. And while he wouldn't recognize the ONI Science Director by sight, the second he heard her name, all bets would be off.]

"I'm going to assume that you know enough about the thaw procedures that I can ask questions about how you came to my lovely little corner of the universe while you make sure you've got all your pieces free of chill."
oplourgia: (back off man i'm a scientist)

[Halsey rakes Flowers with a penetrating gaze that would make the most experienced drill instructor seem friendly.

She's a blast at parties.]

What are you wearing?

[He's clearly not a Spartan, so his armor can't be Mjolnir, and she wants an explanation. Halsey has her priorities, after all.]

[Really? That's what her question is? Flowers chuckles to himself.]

I know, the aqua just isn't the most flattering color, but it does make it easier for my men to keep track of me here in the Gulch. Stands out great against the canyon walls. Can't lead if you can't be seen.

[Of course he understands the question is about the armor itself, but he's going to ignore that.]
